On the Road Again

This month Academy 4 mentors and students took to the road – the Academy 4 roadmap that is – and talked about how leaders develop. Every year mentors ask their 4th graders that forever 4th grade question: What do you want to be when you grow up?

We know 4th graders may want to be a social media influencer one day and a brain surgeon the next. Regardless of where they are on their journey to discover their calling in life, our mentors help them see they need a plan, or a roadmap, to get there.

As mentors and 4th graders dug into our develop trait, they talked about how leaders are lifelong learners and always have a plan to get where they are going. One Academy 4 staffer watched a 4th grader’s eyes get big as saucers when he listened to his mentor, Gary, share the roadmap he took to become a helicopter pilot.

What makes our mentors such great navigators for their 4th grade road racers? They possess habits of a highly effective mentor as outlined by Mentorloop:
  • Our dedicated mentors are lifelong learners themselves.
  • They have high expectations for themselves and their 4th graders
  • They value and seek learning and growth in their work and personal life.
  • They set and achieve ongoing personal goals.

In short, they are road trip aficionados! We can’t wait to see you next month at our next leadership destination: how to be a good Example. Oh, this is going to be good!
